PGL Day 1

After a smooth journey, we arrived in sunny Osmington Bay. We quickly settled, had a tour of the camp and enjoyed our first meal here (fish fingers or curry).

This evening, we spent a couple of hours on the beach skimming stones, paddling and collecting pebbles. We ended our day with a beautiful circle time led by Michael, with the sound of the lapping waves behind us.

The children have got to bed quickly and with very tidy bedrooms. They are looking forward to tomorrow’s activities which include street surfing, buggy building, archery, quad biking and climbing.

They have already been praised for their manners and tidiness in the canteen.

A great start!

We have made Egyptian jewellery, painted Egyptian sunsets, learnt about mummification and the River Nile and finished the first stage of our Egyptian plates. After half term we will be making canopic jars – if you have any pringle tubes in your recycling bin please send them into school. Thank you.

Year 2 Blog Week 30

It has been a very busy week in Year 2. The children have worked incredibly hard this week and I am extremely proud of them.

In Religion we have been learning about the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The children created some beautiful artwork and thought about why Mary was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. We thought about the goodness that flowed from Mary’s Immaculate heart and asked how we can  follow Mary’s example today.

In Science we have been learning about animals and their habitats. This week we focused on animals that live underground. The children delighted in observing the gardener’s best friend – The Earthworm!

Home Learning: Spend some time reading your favourite story!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Maths, maths and a bit more maths

Year 4 has had yet another busy week.

The children have carried out some practical investigations this week in Science about the human digestive system, their favourite part being the modelling of the stomach using zip-loc bags.

They  spent some time on the playground on Wednesday and Thursday  creating different types of angles using metre sticks and chalk. They have proven their understanding of angles as a measure of turn by labelling their own turns on the concrete. They have had further practical maths lessons  using our new Geo-Board apps on the Ipads to create 2-D shapes matching some clues.

As part of this term’s new topic theme (Roman Britain) the children have  worked on a Roman style mosaic portrait. It involved using lots of detail and the children  really took their time to create some beautiful pieces.

In PE, the children have carried on in their tennis learning, practising bounces and rallies and in Music, the children have progressed in their violin playing to using their bow and began learning  a new song called ‘Fast Lane’.

Enjoy your weekend!

Week 4

This week we have been learning about plants in Science. We went on a walk around the school to see what plants we could see.

We made and labelled our own plants. The children enjoyed getting our class garden ready to plant some sunflowers.

In Religion we acted out the story of the Ascension.

In English the children have written some excellent invitations to

Cinderella’s ball. Also they have been using fantastic adjectives to

describe Cinderella in their wanted posters.

Have a lovely weekend!

Our May Procession

Thank you to all the parents who came to share in our procession in honour of Our Lady. It was wonderful to see the host of flowers arriving this morning! Thank you to our Year 6 liturgy group and Mrs Joyce for organizing this act of worship

.

Week 3

Today we took part in a beautiful procession to remember Our Lady. The children placed flowers around Mary in our Peace Garden.

In class we took part in  an Act of Worship thinking about Mary then we made crowns with flowers.

The children loved developing their mapping skills. They worked in pairs to follow a map to find different flags in the playground. Great teamwork!

Have a lovely weekend.

Dinosaurs!!!

It has been a very eventful and exciting past two weeks in Reception class!

Last week, we received a letter from Professor Pemberton from the Natural History Museum. He asked Reception if they would consider looking after a very valuable dinosaur egg while it’s display cabinet was being repaired. The children agreed and wrote back to tell them that we would be delighted to help.

On Wednesday, a very special parcel was brought into class by Mrs Heymoz. It had the words, ‘fragile’ and ‘Natural History Museum’ all over the box. The children knew at once that the package had something very exciting inside- it was the dinosaur egg! The class decided to keep it safe on the prayer table, until they found somewhere secure to display it. They spent a long time planning and making display cabinets and writing signs telling everybody to be careful around the egg. The children were very worried that the egg might break, while in our care!

After the extended weekend, Mrs Theo arrived to a very worrying scene; the protective packaging around the egg seemed to be all over the floor and the egg itself had been completely cracked open! Unbelievably, the dinosaur had hatched and escaped!

When the children arrived in class, they were completely bewildered; what had happened to the egg and more importantly where was the dinosaur now?

At once, Reception notified Mrs Heymoz and the rest of the school. They then came up with a plan. Mrs Lopez phoned the police and the army and Mrs Heymoz phoned the museum. The biggest concern at this point, was whether the dinosaur was a carnivore or a herbivore. Thankfully, the museum informed us that it was indeed a herbivore!

The children then went about writing ‘lost’ posters and planning traps to capture the dinosaur. Some children even wrote a letter to Professor Pemberton, explaining that it wasn’t Mrs Theo’s fault that the egg had cracked. They all agreed to keep look out as they went home that evening.

The next morning, Mrs Theo was overwhelmed with the number of sightings around the childrens’ homes and gardens, so she decided to write them all down to see if there were any patterns in the dinosaur’s behaviour. It seemed that the dinosaur must have been looking for food, as he spent a lot of his time in gardens!

Now that so many of the class had seen the dinosaur, they were in a much better position to write descriptions of the it, which was very helpful, as everyone now knew what they were looking for.

The children worked well together making different traps and are hoping that when they come back on Monday, a little baby dinosaur will be inside one of them!

Today, the children joined the rest of the school honouring Our Lady with our May procession, where we walked to the Peace Garden and placed our flowers on the altar dedicated to Mary.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

Mrs Theo and Mrs Gymer

Week 3 Summer Term

This week has been another busy one!

Yesterday, the children took part in a mapping and orienteering skills workshop.  The used the school grounds to investigate  the location of flags.  The rain did not dampen their enthusiasm!

This morning the children joined with the rest of the school in our May Procession to Our Lady.  After an act of worship led by the Year 6 children, they laid their flowers in the peace garden at the foot of Our Lady’s statue as a sign of their love for her.

Summer 1 Week 3

Another short week has flown by.

On Thursday, we took part in our mapping and orienteering workshop. We managed to avoid the rain and had a great time learning how to use a compass and locating flags around our school grounds. I was really impressed with their teamwork and enthusiasm for the task.

Today we took part in our annual May procession for Mary. The flowers looked and smelt beautiful. I was very pleased with how well behaved and reverent they were. Well done, Year 5.

Have a wonderful weekend.
