Spring Week 5

Year 5 have continued to build on their understanding of the sacraments of healing this week. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Fr Shaun to explain the sacrament of anointing the sick and he brought along his kit to show us. The children listened well and asked some interesting questions. Later in the week, the children brought their knowledge of the sacraments together to create a podcast. I was really impressed with how they worked together to produce some really interesting pieces about how the sacraments offer healing to our world. We will be editing and recording these next week and will share them on the school website when they are complete.

In science, we have been developing our enquiry skills by designing an investigation that required using repeated measures. Year 5 made gyros that they dropped to find out if surface area affects how fast an object falls. We had some interesting results! Year 5 were able to identify some strange data and saw how taking repeated measures created a more reliable result.

To end our week, we learned about copyright and plagiarism as part of Safer Internet Day. Year 5 now know the symbols to look out for and how they can avoid infringing copyright.

Have a great weekend

WEEK 5

We’ve had a wonderful week in Y3, filled with diary writing about the Amazon Rainforest and art based on the exotic animals who live there. The children’s diaries are amazing and they really enjoyed sharing them with Y4.

The children have also used their computing skills to create books on book creator about the sacrament of reconciliation – what a talented class.

Swimming will be on as usual next week.

The Sacraments

This week, Year 4 have spent some time focusing on the Sacrament of Reconciliation, one of the seven Sacraments we are learning about this term. They  created  a role play of the Sacrament and reflected on what they  learnt about the role of the priest and the penitent. They also made some beautiful ‘stained glass effect’ artwork to link art with their RE topic.

The children were introduced to Hinduism in preparation for our visit to the Neasden Temple as part of our Other Faith Week.

On Wednesday, the children enjoyed a double swimming session and have learnt two new patterns during their Djembe lesson on Thursday.

Next Thursday at 2.45pm the children would like to invite all parents and carers to their djembe concert led by Caz, their drumming teacher.

Have a lovely weekend.

Week 5

In Maths the children have been making two digit numbers with Dienes. They have been drawing pictures to show how many tens and how many ones.

In English we have continued learning about the features of instructions and the children wrote instructions to explain how they brush their teeth. We have also been learning about adding the suffixes to word.

In Science, we had an important job to help Cinderella find the best paper to clean with. We tested paper, hand towels and kitchen roll. We found kitchen roll was the best.

In Religion, we have been learning about the Sacraments of Baptism and Reconciliation.

In ICT we have been learning about algorithms. We drew an algorithm and then followed the steps to draw a picture on the ipad.

Have a lovely weekend

Spring Term Week 4 Reception

Our story focus this week has been The Three Little Pigs. The children have been thinking about what materials they would make their own houses from and have enjoyed using the building site role play area. They also made their own houses from different materials, and worked together to create this fantastic den!

Due to the freezing temperatures this week, Reception have spent a lot of time investigating ice and were surprised to hear just how loudly the ice crackled when you put salt on it!

Today, the class enjoyed using watercolour paints and painting directly onto the snow. They also had fun participating in a team challenge of making a snow person together.

This afternoon, the Year 6 Healthy Living group cut up and shared the fruit the children had brought in this morning. Reception enjoyed trying lots of different exotic flavours.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

Mrs Theo and Mrs Gymer

Spring Term Week 4

In Year 5 this week, we were visited by Hertfordshire School Partnership to talk about keeping safe online. The children listened well and asked questions to help improve their understanding of internet safety. Year 5 were introduced to new concepts, such as having a digital footprint. I hope the session that was run for parents following our talk was helpful to those who attended.

In maths, we have continued with our fraction learning and have made links to how they are used in everyday life. We learnt that 10p is a tenth of £1 and 1p was a hundredth. With this information, the children took part in an investigation into how 76 hundreds could be made using coins and developed their understanding the relationship between tenths and hundredths.

In R.E, we have begun learning about the Sacraments of healing. This week, we focused on Reconciliation. Year 5 made booklets about what the Sacrament is and shared them with Year 3. We hope this will support them as they near the time of celebrating this sacrament for the first time.

Our week came to a snowy end. The children had a fantastic time playing outside.

Week 3 and 4

Year 3 have been learning about the Rainforest and investigating the exotic animals and flowers that grow there. Next week, they will be writing diaries and fact files based on this topic.  In maths they have been learning about right angles as well as parallel and perpendicular lines. In RE the children have been learning about the 7 sacraments, sharing their excitement about receiving reconciliation this weekend. We have had an amazing time playing in the snow this morning, making snowmen and building igloos! Have a wonderful weekend. Miss Pringle.

1st February, 2019

This week the children have been continuing their work on Fractions  and Converting units of Measure through problem solving.

As most of the Year 4 class are part of choir, the classroom was rather empty on Wednesday when the children went off to the O2. For the children who remained, they had a creative RE lesson painting symbols to represent the seven Sacraments using water colours.

The experience of being at the O2 and performing was amazing.  The children were excitedly telling us all about how the sound of thousands of children singing together was a memorable experience.

In English, we have continued to look at fronted adverbials and their use at the beginning of a sentence to describe the action that follows.  They have begun to plan to write a narrative and the ideas have been flowing!

Have a wonderful weekend.
