On Wednesday, Year 6 were luck enough you be given a Space Workshop by the Science Ambassadors from Dame Alice Owen’s School. The afternoon consisted of lots of hands-on activities that taught us about getting into space and how to survive in space. Thank you to Ms Chandler for arranging this.
Along with the rest of the school, Year 6 took part in Sports Day on Friday. Well done for leading the rest of the school so well with the warm-up dance and for showing such strong sportsmanship all afternoon. Thanks to the parents and grandparents that joined their children for the family picnic at lunchtime, and to those that ran in the parents’ race! It was a wonderful day all round.
Year 6 also created some fantastic animal art this week in the style of the Harry Potter Patronus Charm.
Thank you to all the parents who came to support the children on sports day. There was a wonderful atmosphere and some amazing performances! Well done to St Bernadette’s House for winning the KS1 competition and to St Vincent’s House for being victorious in the afternoon KS2 event. The overall winner was St Bernadette’s House!
Thank you to all the staff for working hard throughout the day, ensuring that the whole event ran smoothly. Well done to Miss Pringle, our PE leader for her meticulous planning and organisation.
It has been a busy and fun filled two weeks, where the children have continued to impress us with their learning. In English we have written letters to the PM Teresa May regarding plastic pollution and in art we’ve started to make wind chimes (that look like jelly fish) using the recycled bottle tops that you have been sending in.
In maths the children have been developing their data handling skills and the children thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Oakmere library followed by a picnic in the park. The children have also met with the current Y2 children to share their experiences of Y3 and show them their wonderful learning.
It was lovely to see so many of you at sports day on Friday, the picnic was a great success as were the children’s sporting events. Well done to all the parents who took part in the parent race! Also well done to those Year 3 and 4 boys who played in the Wroxham Football tournament – you linked well as a team and played very well.
End of year celebration this Thursday:
We will be having an end of year celebration in class on Thursday afternoon (starting at 3pm and finishing at 3.30pm) This will be an opportunity to share some cake and lemonade with us and enjoy a PowerPoint of pictures and share memories from this year. We also have a little surprise for you.
Home learning this week:
Mathletics – please complete by Friday 13th.
Spelling for the next 2 weeks will be a review of Year 3 spelling lists

Row, row, row your boat. This week Year 2 took on a D&T project to design and make a boat. The children looked at different types of boats and experimented with different materials before creating their vessels. There was great excitement when they tested out their designs. The children evaluated their work and decided that some changes were needed!
On Wednesday, we all enjoyed a wonderful performance of Peter Pan and Captain Cook in the local library. We went on a great adventure to Neverland and we listened to the tales of Peter Pan and his nemesis Captain Cook. We helped the Lost Boys to fight off some pirate baddies and we took part in a funny, fishy cook off!
On your marks, Get set, Go!
Following a very ‘Happy’ warm-up, Year 2 took to the field to take part in the KS1 Sports Day. The children showed off their precision throwing skills at the beanbag station. They zoomed through the obstacle course and made light work of the skipping race. Plenty of concentration was required for the egg and spoon race as well as the beanbag balancing race. The children conveniently finished up at the refreshment station where they enjoyed some refreshing orange slices. The children had great fun cheering on the adults as Mums and Dads took to the field for some fantastic sprint races! Sports Day concluded with the presentation of medals for everyone who took part. Congratulations to St. Bernadette House, the overall winners of KS1 Sports Day 2018.
This week we had 2 wonderful volunteers helping out in Year 2. A BIG thank you to Owain and DJ for all their hard work. Thank you for being kind and caring, helping with our reading and for sharing all your sporting talents with us!
This week the children have been learning about fractions and poetry. They explored various animal poems and even wrote a verse of their own! The sun shone brightly today as Year 1 took part in sports day; a wonderful day had by all! Thank you if you were able to attend today, enjoy all the photographs.
The children have had a wonderful week getting to know the local slugs and snails in the outside area. They discovered that the slimy creatures tend to hide out in dark and damp places such as under flowerpots, dead leaves and the bug hotel!
Reception also enjoyed reading ‘The Snail and the Whale’ as part of their Literacy learning and experimenting with lots of different ways of making trails and spiral patterns.
The children had some very special visitors this week- some African snails and their eggs. The class were fascinated by them and most of the children were keen to take an even closer look by holding them!
The adults preferred to view from a distance!
Next week, we will be learning about spiders!
