21st – 25th May Happy Half Term

We had a lovely start to the week celebrating our grandparents.  It was wonderful to welcome so many special family members into our class and share our learning with them.

In maths we have been learning to tell the time – I have been really impressed with the children’s focus during this topic. Please encourage the children over the holidays to read the time and estimate how long journeys or tasks might take.

We have been inspired by our art lessons to start planning non chronological reports in English about dragons – what imaginations the children have! In science we have been learning about flowering plants. It was brilliant to see so many children walk to school on Tuesday in their ‘happy shoes’ – well done Year 3.

Spirituality week has given the children to reflect and say thank you for the love of their families. The children really enjoyed taking part in the prayer stations with year 6 and writing prayers with their parents in class at celebration morning.

Home learning

There will not be any formal home learning set across the school for the break but please practise your timetables (4, 5, 8, 9, 12 depending on your child’s targets) read and practise your spellings.

Here are the class spellings for the next 4 weeks (please read from left to right)

chemist chorus character chemical chaos anchor stomach
invisible incomplete Independent incorrect inhuman inhale incapable
gently simply humbly completely finally carefully suddenly
temptation adoration preparation information sensation admiration nation

Have a restful break,

Miss Pringle

This week we have been visited by the royal family, been invaded by dragons and shared special stories about our grand parents. We are very much looking forward to seeing how our clay dragon eyes turn out and welcoming our grandparents to school on Monday.

7th – 11th May

This week we have been learning about The Ascension – the children sang beautifully at Church on Thursday and those who had made their Holy Communion were very excited to receive the body and blood of Jesus again during the Mass.

In science we have been learning about our organs and what they do. We have made life size, ‘working’ models.

We made the most of the sunshine in our maths lesson, where we tested our measuring skills by taking hourly measurements of our shadows! After rounding our measurements to the nearest 10 we plotted them on a graph. These lessons also sparked lots of discussions about the movement of the sun – which was great!

Week 5: 18th May

This week, we have spent time preparing for our celebrations for Grand Parents Day.  The children have composed poems and prayers about their Nanny and Grand dads.  In RE, we have begun finding out about how Martyrs died for their Roman Catholic Faith and have learnt about the importance of the Tyburn Tree.  In Maths, we have been putting our knowledge of multiplication into context.  In English, the children have continued to learn more about ‘The Runaways’ and have become aware in  grammar about standard and non-standard forms of English.  In Art the children are making poppies for the Potters Bar Carnival.  They’re coming on really well.

Friday was our Red, White and Blue day and the children looked wonderful.  Thank you for assisting them in getting prepared for this special day.

We think of Maria who is preparing to receive her First Holy Communion on Sunday.

Have a lovely weekend.

Year 6 – 18/05/18

SATs are over! Well done to each and every one of you for the fantastic effort you put into this week. You all gave it your absolute best and you ought to be proud of yourselves whatever the mark on the paper at the end of it.

It is now time to start work on our End-of-year Production. Click here for the list of parts from which to choose. I have given you all audition sheets, and here is a reminder of what you need to prepare.

If you’re auditioning for a male part, then prepare one of the Bugsy’s sections on page 4.

If you’re auditioning for a female part, then prepare Blousey’s lines from the dialogue on page 6.

If you’re auditioning for a part that requires solo singing, then prepare the first verse of I’m Feeling Fine, in addition to lines as above.

Here is the song:

And here is the backing track version:

We also need to start learning the songs that everybody will be singing.

Happy practising and I look forward to listening to you next week (day to be decided).

Have a lovely weekend.

Blog week 30

We have had another great week in Year 1! In maths we have been learning about measures and engaged with a range of measuring equiment. In English we focused on the story ‘The tiger who came to tea’. The children adapted the story to include new characters and story events. They are now confident with using adjectives, question marks and exclamation marks in their stories. Next week, they will be writing their final piece for our classroom display. In science they planted beans and carried out an investigation to see which bean will grow in different conditions where they will be observing over time. On Friday, to celebrate the royal wedding, the children wore suits and princesses outfits. They enjoyed a special treat; ice-cream! I wonder who ate the chocolate ones?IMG_0634 IMG_0635 IMG_0643 IMG_0638 IMG_0640 IMG_0642 IMG_0645 IMG_0646 IMG_0647 IMG_0648 IMG_0650 IMG_0653 IMG_0663 IMG_0664 IMG_0674 IMG_0675 IMG_0676 IMG_0665 IMG_0685 IMG_0686 IMG_0662

Year 5 18/5/18

I hope you all enjoyed your royal welcome this morning! The school have all had great fun this morning coming dressed as royalty or in red white and blue. Year 5 looked fabulous and we even had a corgi!

Also this week, our tennis lesson focused on our backhand skills. Some of the children showed off their amazing rally skills to earn their teams big points.
