Week 6: 25th May

This week, we started off with Grandparents Day and the school was buzzing with proud children excited that their grandparents were in their school!

The children had their weekly tennis lesson and have continued making their poppies for the carnival on Sunday 10th June.  They have made their stencils for their t-shirts which they will be using in their t-shirt workshop when they return to school after the half-term. In English we have continued to learn about the characters in The Runaways and in Maths the children have worked REALLY hard on developing their understanding of division. We even had assistance from some of the Year 6 boys which was a delight to watch!  Their interaction with the children meant that they could share their understanding of this difficult concept.

As it has been Spirituality Week, the children have spent time thinking about the importance of their family and God’s love for them.  The children met with their Year 2 prayer partners and received special prayers that the children had written for them. On Thursday, with the help of the Year 6 children, the class took part in various prayer stations which they enjoyed: ‘God’s Words’, the ‘Bubble Station’, ‘God’s Creation’ etc..were some of the stations they visited.

On Friday, following the Year 6’s assembly on The Family, we had an act of worship in the classroom in which some of our parents came and participated in.  Our focus was to create a class book that contains all the children’s family prayers written in the morning. It was a lovely ending to an uplifting week.

Have a lovely half-term.

Mrs McNamara and Miss Varga

Homework for the half-term is for the children to design the cover for the Summer Fayre.  Happy drawing!

Happy Shoesday!

A BIG thank you to all children who supported this event.  £138.00 was raised and this has been sent off to Living Streets.

Year 6 Kingswood Meeting (24/5/18)

It was great to see so many of you at the Kingswood Information Evening on Thursday. For those that were not able to make it, the powerpoint is below, and I will give the forms to your child.

Year 6 – 25/05/18

Post-SATs life is upon us and it has been an extremely busy but enjoyable week here in Year 6.  We began Spirituality Week by welcoming grandparents into our classroom, where the children found out what their grandparents’ childhoods were like compared to their own. It was interesting to hear that it was extremely uncommon for people to go abroad decades ago, and we discussed why this might have been the case.

Here are some of the impressive portraits that the children drew of their grandparents.

Also on Monday, Year 6 exchanged prayer cards with their Reception reading partners, ate some cake, then spent some time playing together. They all had great fun getting the parachute out!

As is traditional for Spirituality Week, the Year 6s led the rest of the school in the Spirituality Stations – a chance for each class to spend half an hour in the hall and be still an reflective whilst participating in various prayerful activities. There were comments from staff members about how well the Year 6s led the rest of the school – well done.

In English, we have moved onto a new unit based around a book called The Island. The children have enjoyed getting into the role of the different characters, and are being kept in suspense about how the story ends!

We are lucky enough to have Mr Dugan teaching PE between now and the end of term, with the focus being on cricket.

A huge well done to all those that participated in the Oakmere Mini Marathon this morning: you did yourselves proud. Congratulations in particular to Ellie (who came 1st out of the girls) and Ben (who came 8th out of the boys).

Once again, it was wonderful to see every single one of you auditioning for a part in the Y6 production. I will be blogging another post in the next couple of days to outline what you need to learn song-wise over half term, but you’ll need to make sure you know all your lines by the time we come back so that we can hit the ground running with rehearsals.

Well that’s another half term gone in a flash. Well done for all the hard work you’ve put into your learning. It’s been an extremely busy few weeks, so have a restful week off and I’ll see you all on the 4th June.

Spirituality Week- Reception

It has been a truly wonderful week, full of joyful and spiritual experiences.

Reception began the week with the rest of the school in a very special Grandparents Celebration Morning; a special assembly followed by a visit to the classroom. The children were so proud to show their loved ones around their classroom and outside area. Thank you so much for coming.

In the afternoon the children wrote prayers and exchanged them with their Year 6 reading partners. This was followed by some fun games together using the parachute.

On Tuesday they learnt about the story Noah’s Ark. Some children wrote their own Noah’s Ark book, some painted pictures and some children made their own replica ark.

On Wednesday, the children listened to the story Dogger and discussed where in the story they could see God. They then thought about everyday moments  in their own family life where God is present.

On Thursday, the children participated in the prayer stations led by the Year 6 children.

Spirituality Week Year 5

It has been a wonderful final week of the half term filled with stillness, reflection and celebration. It was fantastic to welcome Grandparents to our classroom on Monday and share with them our artwork, poems and prayers. We then joined with Year 1 and pledged to pray for our partner throughout the week.

IMG_1406 IMG_1409 IMG_1410 IMG_1411 IMG_1412 IMG_1413 IMG_1414

Year 5 also spent time thinking about the love in Jesus’ family by reading the story of the young Jesus at the temple. The children could relate to this story well and considered the emotions they would have felt. We also contemplated the big question, ‘what if we woke up today with only the things we said thank you for yesterday’. The children were shocked to see a list missing the most important things, like family and our homes.

On Thursday, Year 6 led us in prayer stations. The children acted with great reverence and enjoyed focusing their thoughts and prayers.

We concluded the week with another celebration morning for parents. During this time, we wrote prayers for our family and decorated them.

I wish you a wonderful half term and look forward to seeing you all on the 4th of June for our final half term of year 5.

Blog week 31

Year 1 had a fun packed week starting with ‘grandparents celebration’ morning. It was so lovely to see all the grandparents who were able to come. The children were thrilled to have you here! For spirtuality week,  Year 5 and Year 1 wrote prayers for eachother and got to exchange these during an Act of Worship held in class. It was a beautiful moment watching the exchange of flowers and words. On Thursday, the children went into the hall to take part in the various sprituality activities in the hall. This was a time for reflection, stillness and peace; thinking about all those in our hearts. The children displayed reverence throughout the afternoon and had time to reflect.  Lastly, we say goodbye to Hebe. We shall keep you and your family in our prayers and look forward to seeing you in the new term. We also say goodbye to Miss Webb who goes on to embark on her new teaching career. Good Luck – We shall miss you!

Year 2 Blog Week 31

It has been another busy week in Year 2! The children took part in a number of activities linked to our Spirituality Week. The theme of our Spirituality Week this year was God at the centre of our family. We started the week with a very special Grandparents Celebration Morning. The children were overjoyed to share their artwork and acrostic poems with their Grandparents.  We paired up with Year 4 to make prayer flowers and offered prayers to our Year 4 partners. Prayer stations were organised by Year 6 in which the children offered prayers through blowing bubbles, choosing a stone, creating a prayer chain for different countries and writing prayers for different people. Each day the children have spent time reflecting on their day in a Spirituality Diary. IMG_1976 IMG_1971 IMG_1969 IMG_1968 IMG_1962 IMG_1959 IMG_1957 IMG_1954 IMG_1949 IMG_1945 IMG_1944
