Week 1 Summer Term 20th April
/3 Comments/in Year 4 /by Margaret Joyce
Well, it has been a wonderful week back at school! We have had sunshine to keep us happy and the children have returned refreshed from their Easter break. Myself and Miss Varga have loved hearing about your Easter holidays and the abundance of Easter eggs you received!
This week we have been looking at features of a newspaper as we will be writing our news articles based on the story of the Road to Emmaus. In Maths we have continued our work on Fractions and fractions of amounts and the children have worked hard to understand this topic using pictorial representations to help them.
In Science we have been talking about Teeth and we will be carrying out experiments to see what affects them.
On Friday afternoon, Mrs Burgess led the children for our final session on making some lovely willow fences in the Peace Garden. Many parents came to see the lovely willow structures that the children have made and it was lovely to see the parents have a go and work with willow too!
The homework for this week is set on Mathletics and Spag. Please log in to see the tasks. The spellings are based on the eigh, ei words the children have been working with.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs McNamara and Miss Varga
Year 2 Blog Week 26
/1 Comment/in Year 2 /by Margaret JoyceWe are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song!
We started our first week back at school with a special assembly to celebrate the Risen Lord. We also put the finishing touches to our Easter Gardens. Well done to everyone for completing the Easter Home Learning project. The Year 2 garden is full of symbols of new life, from painted eggs and chicks to colourful flowers and butterflies.
In Religion this week the children have been looking at the Resurrection story – The Road to Emmaus. We will continue working on this story next week as part of our Big Write in English.
Year 2 have been making the most of the glorious weather this week. We have been working hard digging and planting up the vegetable patches. The children found lots of worms and insects and we even found a frog! What do you think we should call the frog? All suggestions welcome.
Reminder: No hat, no play! Please ensure your child has a sun hat with them every day.
Summer Term Week 1- Year 5
/4 Comments/in Year 5 /by Margaret JoyceWelcome to the summer term!
Our focus this week has been on the Gospel story of the Road to Emmaus. We have been thinking about how the people would have been feeling and about what the story teaches us. To do this, we have engaged with the text through an act of worship and completing role play tasks. We will use this knowledge to write a newspaper report on this event next week.
In R.E, we have been recalling events of Holy Week and reading what each Gospel tells us about the resurrection. The children did really well at comparing and contrasting them. I was particularly impressed that they recalled their learning on the Gospel of Mark to explain the way in which it was written.
In science, we have completed our unit on life cycles by looking at plants. The children dissected lilies to identify the reproductive parts of flowers.
Our maths topic this week was based on measurement and converting between units. The children applied their knowledge of dividing and multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 to solve a range of problems.
Coach Dugan joined us for our first session this week. He will continue to teach the children every Wednesday until the end of year 5.
With the sun shining, it has been a fantastic first week back. Well done and thank you to the children who put so much hard work into their holiday home learning. It made our garden look amazing.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Summer Term Week 1
/1 Comment/in Archives, Year 3 /by Margaret JoyceIt was lovely to welcome the children back to school this week after the Easter break. They have been very enthusiastic about our newspaper writing in English and have even helped Y2 answer interview questions. Look out for news headlines about The road to Emmaus. The children’s Easter gardens look brilliant – well done.
In maths the children have been estimating and finding equivalent fractions, using mm, cm and m. Maybe this weekend they could measure, compare and estimate the difference between the foot length of the people in their family?
Our P.E. days are going to be Wednesday and Thursday this term but please ensure kits are in on Monday should these days have to change for any reason.
