Week 16 Blog

A warm welcome back to the start of the new year! This week the children have been learning about 2d and 3d shapes. Working in groups they completed a tricky shape puzzle work. In English they have been securing their understanding of how to form a sentence. They worked in pairs to match two sentences together with the conjunction ‘and’. Lastly, a 50 House points star was awarded to one lucky boy who could think of a word that contained the ‘aigh’ sound – straight.

8.1.18

What a busy week!

Thank you all for your generous food donations throughout Advent. On Tuesday we took the items down to Sainsbury’s for the food bank. They were extremely grateful to receive our donations and assured us that we would be helping many families.

We have also started swimming this week, which was great fun. Mr Dugan is supporting in PE this term – please ensure kits are in on Tuesdays –  currently we are doing indoor athletics.

In science we have been investigating light sources and in RE we have been celebrating our family both at home and at school.

Home learning will be sent home this weekend, children will have taken note of their new reading days – they will need their reading book and record on this day.

Regards

Miss Pringle

Happy New Year From Y3

Happy New Year, I hope you had a restful and prayerful holiday. Thank you all very much for your lovely cards and generous gifts.

The children have made a fantastic start to the Spring term. We started the week by reflecting on the 12 days of Christmas and celebrating Epiphany – they have made wonderful Epiphany promises and enjoyed making crowns to wear.

We have been exploring synonyms and antonyms in English and have enjoyed reading The Mousehole Cat in guided reading. In maths we have been exploring what strategies are most effective. Please keep practising your 4 and 6 timetables.

Home learning will begin next week.

Week 1 5th January Spring Term 2018

Welcome back everyone!

We hope you had a blessed Christmas and wish you every blessing for this new year ahead.

Although we have only been back two days, the children have been doing many things.  In preparation for today’s assembly to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, the children examined the story of the wise men visiting the baby Jesus and made their own crowns.  During a class Act of Worship, the children thought carefully about what gift they will bring to our school and their homes this year and offered these in assembly this morning.

The Epiphany is depicted in a mural titled "Adoration of the Magi" in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception at Conception Abbey in Conception, Mo. Painted by Benedictine monks in the late 1800s, the artwork is the first appearance of the German Beuronese style in a U.S. church. Christians celebrate the incarnation of the divine word -- the birth of Christ -- Dec. 25. The feast of the Epiphany is Jan. 2. (CNS photo courtesy Conception Abbey) (Nov. 8, 2004)

Next week, the children will be going swimming on Wednesday so please remember your swim suits!  A letter was sent home to inform you of this.  We also have a special Class Mass on Thursday 25th January.  Please keep this date free in your diary.

Have a lovely weekend.

See you on Monday!

Welcome Back- Year 5

Happy New Year!

It has been great to catch up with the children and hear about their exiting break. It seems many of them enjoyed their Christmas lunches and ate all of their vegetables! The Dojo count is really climbing!

In our first two days back, we focused on the Epiphany. We have reflected on its significance and thought about what gift we will bring to our school and homes this year. We have also compared our traditions with Scripture.

In maths, we started to look at formal written methods for addition and subtraction. We used this knowledge to solve missing number calculations and some cryptarithms. The children really enjoyed doing these and it was lovely to see them buzzing with excitement so early in the term!

In science, we began our new unit on living things, with particular focus on life cycles. The children have identified key vocabulary and have considered what they already know and what they would like to find out.

This week, there is no home learning. However, I have signed the children up to a reading comprehension site. As this is optional, there is no minimum or maximum number of activities they need to complete. To encourage the children to participate, they will earn a Dojo for each one they do. The link is below and usernames and passwords were given in class today.

Have a great weekend
